Objectives of M-FIT
 

The objectives of the M-FIT are as follows:

To identify the needs in Malaysia for improved food information and traceability, to define
   methods for meeting these needs, and to report on the administrative and legislative steps
   which would support the implementation of improved food information and traceability

To define and demonstrate the structure for a Food Information and Traceability System which
   can be shared by all operators in the food chain, and by consumers of food

To provide a practical method for implementing information gathering and traceability, which will
   help the efficiency of farmers and other operators in the food industry and enhance consumer
   safety and well being

To introduce information technology and electronic communications into all stages of the food
   sector

To develop and demonstrate an electronic system platform which is used nationally and across
   borders to communicate food information and traceability data and documents within the
   supply chain, to consumers and to appropriate public authorities

These objectives benefit the food industries by:

Rebuilding public confidence.

E-enabling the food supply chain.

Creating low-cost automation.

Increasing the use of data to improve business processes.

Guarding against international trade barriers related to food safety issues.
